On June 13, 1914, the Charlestown Examiner had the first reference of the Old Charlestown Schoolboys formulating plans for the very first reunion. The actual newspaper article is included on the following page. but the poor scanning makes it difficult to read. This is the article:

Reunion of the Old Schoolboys

 

Informal in conduct will teem with “Get Together” spirit

 

500 are expected.

 

It will be an afternoon of reminisces of those old school days before the annexation took place.

 

 

This afternoon, June 13th, 1914, the first reunion of the boys who attended the primary, grammar, and high schools of Charlestown prior to annexation, will take place on the Monument grounds.

 

The Old Charlestown School Boys Association, under whose auspices this pleasing event will take place is, at present, a temporary one, of which James S Murphy, President of the Stickney and Poor Spice Company, is the chairman of a strong committee of men prominent in business and professional life who are interested in making the reunion, the start of annual events of a similar nature.

 

Already, close to 500 old schoolboys have signified their interest of being present to take advantage of this opportunity of meeting with schoolmates of the bygone days.

The affair will be an entirely informational one, the main desire of the committee in charge is of  getting the boys together and then for annual reunions, with the view of keeping the Spirit alive from year to year.

 

At this time, there will be a book for the registration of names of those present with the designation of schools attended, and badges appropriate of the occasion in Charlestown will be given to all who register.
